Question What mods wouldn't you do again?

    Hi all,
What modifications have you done to your Landy that you wouldn't do again?

Do you regret replacing your exhaust system with something claiming to get more HP but is really just noisier? Perhaps your suspension set up is too harsh or too soft? Seat covers don't match your handbag? Driving lights causing overheating problems?
Sure, it may work for many but did it work for you?

If you were starting over with the same vehicle, which mods wouldn't you waste time or money on again?

P.S. Try not to fling brand names around wherever possible. That just isn't cool.

    Snorkel.

I fitted one to my Classic and it ruined the look of the car. Hence the reason I haven't fitted one to the P38A.

    Good idea for a thread!

While there is nothing that I /regret/ there are things that in hindsight cost more money than they are worth..

Used Disco 1 rims because they were landrover and 'cheap'. I got 6 of them for less than $50 each.. so cheap initially, yes! Then I had the offset redone ($70ea) then zinc & powder coated ($75ea).. This process took the best part of 3 months, and while I do love the end result I should have just ordered some zu alloys from Rovacraft. (or got a welder, made a jig and reset them myself...)

Also fitted under bonnet sound deadener from a well known auto carpet store.. while it works, I will end up re doing it with something better soon. It was only $60 but a waste of $60 and I'll have to spend more to get it right. (heaver material, heat proof, etc)

Fitted an R380 and 1.2:1 LT230 to my Isuzu.. All up, it was extremely expensive as they were both reco units and the bell housing was custom. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely happy with the results.. its just that 3 weeks (literally 3 weeks!) after I finished it the_grubb announced his MSA box kit, which would have been a much better idea. (esp as I'm doing the turbo now)

On my S.V.X relocation cones +2inch shocks and King springs to find that when loaded its useless and needed air bags to compensate for the boat trailer load and all the junk we take away. Also the slide out drop down fridge mount, you cannot get at anything in the back if its fitted inside the tailgate and to get in the fridge with the boat on we used to have to disconect the boat trailer. Another waste was the half roof rack that I have since passed on to the wife's ninety, replacing it with a full rack so I can transport my Oz tent on the roof and not in the boat.
On the wifes Ninety, duel shocks in the rear. they are good when its fully loaded and the boats on, but like a go Kart when not. That will do before SHMBO cuts of my money and parts of my anatomy.

    Jate rings.
I went to the trouble of finding forged Jate rings and imported them from the UK, but they're completely impractical as recovery points because they're under the car. I still like them but since I have no plans that require being airlifted by helicopter I doubt that they will ever get used.

    Alloy steering guard.
Soon to be replaced by a steel guard.

    Electronic rust protection.
Had this on my previous (new) Defender, but still got a bit of rust. The vendor was obviously used to customers telling them that their vehicle had rusted and were good and ready with a bucket load of excuses and blame games.

The list of mods that I am delighted with and would do over again is much, much longer

    Excellent idea for a tread.
I will keep an eye on what people post.

I had a roof console in my GQ Patrol that was connected up to the interior lights and alarm. It kept shorting out (wire rubbed through) and actually broke away from the roof on the way up the Cape.
Not a big deal, just an inconvenience at the time.

Apart from the UHF being easy to see and access in the roof console , I really didn't use the extra space the console provided so I will not put one in the Puma.

I wouldn't put ARB lockers in i would have gone straight to Ashcroft. Also I would have changed the diff ratios before putting lockers in because I hardly ever use the damn things with the new ratios. Stupid lockers. Also i would not have bought a Chinese winch. Stupid Chinese winch. Sorry for mentioning names, but I feel ARB lockers while a great product when working aren't particularly well thought out.

If I had my time over again I wouldn't take the center muffler out of my TD5 exhaust. Whilst it may have made a small, perhaps even unnoticeable, improvement to performance and doesn't make excessive noise, judging by the type of people who think it sound great I think now that it was a step in the wrong direction.

Oh and I don't care much for the ned kelly 'such is life' sticker in the back window but that was the previous owner.
