Black Smoke from TDV6 under load

    Hi everyone
My 08 TDV6 (85,000km) has started to blow black smoke under load. There does not seem to be an appreciable loss of power, although it may have reduced gradually so I have not noticed.
Basically when giving it the boot going uphill it pushes out the smoke. Last night I was acccelerating up hill on a freeway on-ramp and pretty well blinded the driver of a Volvo behind me.
Any body have any ideas before I take it to the stealers?
    Thanks
    Mike

Run a Diesel fuel system cleaner in the next few tanks...

How clean is your air cleaner? Is the motor eating oil at the moment?

Perhaps the early stages of a split intercooler hose.

    Dirty MAF sensor ?

I cleaned mine with CRC Mass Air Flow cleaner & I noticed I no longer see any black smoke when floor it.

+1 for all the above... mine was the split hose and I'm still surprised at the slight increase in economy since swapping it out... must been dodge for a while or maybe the newer one is a better profile?

Hope you get it sorted ok.

Thanks to all for your thoughts. 100% right, I finally got to have a look on Saturday afternoon, I don't have a garage and it was raining cats and dogs until then. Approximately a six inch split near the top of the hose. I bandaged it with a soft drink can and some duct tape - stopped the black smoke but introduced a scream every time the turbo cut in.

Got it sorted properly on Monday, noticeable difference driving, so it must have been on the way out for a while.
    Thanks again
    Mike

Very similar, possibly a little shorter.

Great news Mike... love the screaming soft drink can! Funny how they seem to have been dying for a while and we don't really notice...

    Cheers.
