Rover Vanden Plas 4 litre R

    Hi all

I have had a hankering to own and run a Vanden Plas 4 litre R for some time (predates my Land Rover bug by at least 15 years) but never ever bought one.

When one was available I was broke and when I was flush I could never find one.

Well I thought I'd make a concerted effort this go round. But, as always, there doesn't seem to be many around.

I flew to Adelaide to view one but it was that rusty/oily/broken that it would need a year (read: 2 years) off the road just to make it drivable. I'm not neccesarily looking for a concours but rather an honest drivable weekend tinkerer model

    Good Luck!

I haven't seen one of these for yonks & I've been around a LOOOONG time!

To each his own but if I was hankering for a Van Den Plas, I'd be looking at XJ6/12 variants. They are not much dearer than the corresponding garden variety XJ6 but the initial purchase price was much higher due to the higher level of luxury. The 12's would be my pick: a lot of car for the dollars. Parts may be easier too.

Your interested in the Vanden Plas 4L Rolls Royce engine I take it? I saw one when I was a kid. An old fellow owned it and he lived in Boolaroo (near Newcastle NSW) and it was a pale grey colour. It kinda looked like an old Woolsly. The drawcard being the RR motor. Nice car. Have not seen one since. Probably rarer than my Volvo 1800S.

A mate in Sydney had a couple of those, but I haven't seen him in a few years, and last time I saw him he was driving a Ford Capri, so I doubt he would still have a Van Den Plas.

Thats exactly what I'm looking for.

Top of BMC's range at the time, shared heritage and some panels with the Austin Westminster and the Wolseley 6/110 but is a nice car in its own right.

    Cheers
