Mobile phone boosters

Hi All. Are these devices snake oil or has someone used them satisfactorily. I live on the fringe area of Sydney and my fringe area phone does not work in our house, probably due to the colourbond roof. Other than stand out in the rain to use the phone does anyone have suggestions. (with telstra). Jim

OK out of left field, I use a 3G wireless USB modem for the laptop, hanging it off the crossbar of an aluminium window frame triples the signal. The window is set into dry timber framing. Perhaps make a loop of insulated wire, hang it off the ceiling, stand next to it?

if its got an external antenna socket and its 3g grab some of the 5o ohm coax and the connector to suit expose 93mm of the shield and the core bend them perpendicular to the main body and at 180 degrees to each other (use a small electric driver with a drill chuck to wind the shield into a smaller stiffer diameter) then stand that up perpendicular to the nearest tower to you and parallel to the ground.

Yup, your only option is an external antenna.

You MAY be able to set your phone for roaming, and this MAY help a little.

The other thing you can try is to turn your phone off for about 30 seconds, and then back on again. This allows it to re-aquire the network, and it will look for the strongest signal.

FWIW, I fix 75% of reception issues with mobiles by having the user turn them off & then back on again.

It should be standard practice for anyone with a mobile to do this at least once a week.

BTW - when 4G is rolled out properly, the telcos are saying that things will be better... wait and see...

Snake oil mate. I used to work for Telstra ( Comms tech for 29 years)
Buy a ZTE phone, About the only one left with an external antenna socket,

Get a NextG broomstick antenna for your car
and a Yagi for your house
