2011 Defender

HI ALL !!
I am finally going to buy a Brand new 110 Defer !! i just want to now can you chip the motor to get more power like a POWER CHIP ? At the moment when I test drove the Defer it was real nice but it was gutless and I tow allot my current ride is a TD5 Defer and it has been chipped and it HALLS ASSS up hills while towing .

And if there is what brand of chip is a good one to purchase ? Does landrover sale them ?

First bit of advice, don't get a plug in chip, by enlarge they are all crap.

Instead get it re-mapped. The results are much better.

If your worried about warrenty issues then you could always speak to Pete at BAS and get one of his manic box of PuMA tricks.

Pete @ Bell Auto services, Ian @ IRB developments (works closely with pete) or td5 alive all offer load of upgrades for pumas.

is yours 2.4 or 2.2?

Get the vehicle and put some k's on it first, let the engine loosen up and run in! Then chip it!

They are very "stiff" when new and there is a very good chance that the demo had less than 5,000km? I found mine picked up power, speed and smoothness after 15,000km.

Just keep in mind that chips and remapping is LRA's favourite loophole out of waranty... There is however options like Alive Tuning's Atric where you can return the mapping to original before a service, but the bugger would be if you should break down.

I would have to agree with all of the above, and I have a Atric from Gary at Alive Tuning. EGR valve deactivated and speed limiter removed. Remember these remaps are custom to your vehicle. The tuning boxes only alter a very few engine parameters, this is not ideal.

Speaking as a partner of a 07 puma, what they said. If you can get rid of the infamous EGR I it will do wonders to a great 4WD.

Hi Matthew,
The Bullet (09 Silver Defender) is in for an Engine management system upgrade today, it's called a PSI unit?? made in Germany and was off for a Dyno run after lunch. It was supposed to be in 3 weeks ago, but the wrong unit arrived.
I'm expecting 450Nm of Torque, will post result from around Thursday.
So in the mean time the Bullet has been getting around with a new bigger intercooler and two new sections of exhaust. The Decat has been removed. These two changes are very noticeable.

The PSI unit is fitted on top of the L/Rover unit and can be swapped back and forward in 30 Secs, a little more redunancy I guess if required.


On Thursday I'll pick it up

Fitting a up-graded intercooler is probably the single best thing that you can do to a PUMA.

If you are only chasing reasonable power gains and better fuel economy (if I had my time again) I would just do the intercooler and De-Cat pipe and see if that was enough.

I have driven mine to the Stealer at Artarmon a couple of times with the stock map installed. There is a big difference between a standard PUMA and one with the intercooler up-graded and Cat removed.
