(From ADF-serials.com) ( I was looking at the site in relation to another Sabre that was a neighbors lawn ornament in 71 or 72. It smelled exactly like a Series Landrover too...)

Having just been up to Binna Burra lodge for Christmas Day, I was fascinated to find myself talking to a couple of the older locals who distinctly recalled the day a RAAF Sabre jet cut off the resort's powers supply. They remember seeing quite a lot of sparks out over the valley then all the lights and power went out at the resort.
This particular transmission line span is approximately 1 mile long (1.6Kms for you youngsters) and spans from the outskirts of Beechmont village to Binna Burra itself, a road distance of approx 3 or so kms, so I guess it is understandable how it would be hard to see.
Just thought some of you airplane buffs may be interested.

That story reminds me that in about 1968 I was flying the Auster I owned at the time from Archerfield to Glen Innes. Climbing below the steps, I was a bit south of Beaudesert, and caught something out of the corner of my eye - two Sabres passed under me, probably about 500ft below me, and 300ft above the trees, guessed speed about 250kts.
