How do I access the MP3 socket in the D4?

    Hi guys.

I want to add a 3.5mm stereo socket to the existing one located in the rear of the centre console. I want a new one forward of the gear shift. I know how to remove the centre of the centre console but how do I remove the centre console bin-come-arm-rest to access the rear of the MP3 socket?

    Cheers.

To gain access to the rear of the centre cubby box, you will need to remove it.
To do this you will need to ...
Open cubby box lid to 180 degrees, T40 or T50 torx bit & undo the bolts at the sides of the lid, remove bolts. Then remove silver caps by lifting upwards.
Lift lid to vertical & slide lid upwards & off.
Remove drink holder from front of cubby box, remove panel in front of cubby box under handle. You should see 2 T20 torx screws, remove these & the entire inner cubby box will lift upwards & out, a little force is required.
This should give you access to the plug.
The wiring loom also runs down the side to the rear of the cubby box.

    HTH
    Cheers

The harness for the aux outlet runs up under the driver/passenger drink holder around the gear shifter then up behind the CD player. There is a plug near the drink holder in the harness.. You can access the harness without taking all the centre console apart. I will also be using this harness only closer to the CD player for my iPod to tap into. I have pics under my profile of what the harness looks like. Cheers.

Thanks mate. So you're saying this plug is the AUX input? 2 wire, unpowered?

Following Sniegy's directions I've accessed the rear of the AUX socket; being 2 wire (Red and blue) and a shield (black).

The socket Robocop refers to is 2 wire only; being green/white and black and carries 12vdc when the ignition is on. Definitely not associated with the AUX input.

The AUX wiring and the spare 2 pin plug terminate in different parts of the main plug (above).

Arewe talking about a D3 or D4? I had the whole console apart in my D4 & my aux wires pass under the drink holders as well, audio & power, not on the same plug.

Ok... I hate the D4 'Premium' audio system so much I took the whole console & middle dash apart to see what my options were with the system. I took photos of my steps which included tracing the aux wires back up to the dash. This is what I found..

    Aux Power harness

    Audio harness

    Dash...

Back of the CD player - Note the smaller harness.

So from what I found these are the wires you're looking for.

Audio out from CD player & AUX in from console

D4 mate. Got the job done....now just trying to get the plug back into the AUX socket. Need to be a contortionist with 5mm think fingers!

I'm looking to install a Pioneer or Clarion screen that works with the original system, but that's another thread yet to be started..
