    Buying inter-state

Can anyone who has bought inter-state (NSW to QLD) give me some advice?

I am considering buying a Disco II from a dealer in NSW Sydney.
From the QLD Department of Transport - I need a unregistered vehicle permit issued in NSW so that I can legally drive it back to QLD, sans the plates. Once back in QLD I will need to do a RWC as the NSW issued blue/pink/white slip will be useless.

Is it as simple as this?

Obviously that puts the responsibility of the RWC onto me.
Has anyone done differently. I assume there is no way to get a QLD RWC issued in NSW.

    Thanks

    Sounds pretty right to me.

I did NSW to VIC on a NSW temp permit. Then obtained RWC in VIC.

Make sure any remaining NSW rego is cashed in and considered in sale price.

When I tried to get a permit from NSW the rego authority wanted some coloured slip (blue or pink). It was the lesser one. Then they wanted a NSW address for the slip so I just trucked it.
Sounds like you won't have that problem.
The QLD roadworthy must be done in QLD.

If the D2 has rego at the moment - keep the plates on. Simply buy the car ( Arrange with your insurance company for a covernote etc), drive it up to Q, and when you arrive, then get a Q inspection. NSW rules do not automatically cancel rego. ( 14 days to transfer then a $200 extra rego fee)
Be warned, the Q inspection will be the intensive version - not just a simple RWC. Having the plates makes it easier when it comes to rego - Q DOT likes being able to cross reference interstate rego. The drawback to that operation is any monies due you when the NSW rego is cancelled are lost. But that's not a big problem as dealers usually only put 3 months on at a time, and the NSW transfer fees (into your name) outweigh the refund.

If the car is unreg, then get the car shipped straight from the dealer to you. Far easier and cost effective.

Alternatively, why isn't the dealer supplying you with a NSW pink slip on sale? ( That being an obligation on vehicles above $2K odd). He could also arrange the unreg vehicle permit too. Dealers get priority at NSW RTA offices. Wouldn't take 10mins.

I bought a car from Sydney some months back, but didn't bother driving it back as it seemed to be all too hard to get the unreg vehicle permit. Not only that but one of the big car carriers had a special offer on for Sydney to Brisbane transport of $550 from memory.

So it was just a case of sit back and wait for it to arrive, having arranged CTP and insurance, and then took it to the nearest roadworthy place when it arrived.

Less hassle than driving it back if you ask me!

Definitely need to go there and drive it back!!! I've done it quite a few times now getting cars from NSW, VIC, & WA back to SA. Each time I simply drove the car home then took it to get inspected and all was good. There is traps for young players especially buying private cos you got very little recourse if you got sold a dud and can't register it in your state. When I was registering one from NSW (I've done two from NSW to SA) there was a guy there with a BMW he'd got for a steal and when they inspected it, realised it'd been in a smash and front end not fixed properly, infancy the front axle wasn't square to the car, out by 25mm and so, as with the car, he was rooted!!!

All 4 cars I've bought into SA have gone through full inspection all fine.

I really only buy interstate these days cos the SA market is quite limited and it give me an excuse for a boys roadtrip!!!

Not the help you need but its sooo easy to buy a car in WA.

My 80 Series blew up near Broome & I bought a used 2006 105 Toyota from Broome Toyota with a Vic licence & Vic address .
The Toyota Dealer just needed any WA address so I gave them the Caravan Park address,
    No RWC required

Front up at Transport Office & pay Rego & they registered it with WA plates & a Vic address

Then a few months later I go home & go to Vicroads office & cancel WA rego & transfer into Vic rego, still no RWC req , Full WA refund for unused reg, no stamp duty paid.

    Too easy.

Next time I buy a Car I'm going to Perth !!

    Thanks for the replies.

LR may be sold before I even get there. I am hesitant to pay a deposit on a vehicle I haven't seen, been there before, learnt that lesson.

Flights are cheap so I will probably go look at a few private sales.
