There is more than the contents of War and Piece on this topic - just do a search of the D3/D4/RRs section - in particular the FAQs and all will be revealed.

    re transmission pan D3

I rang all over, and looked on Ebay, and all. best price I got was phoning ZF in Sydney and buying full kit and 20 litres of oil, and they delivered the lot to my door, and it was the cheapest option over any offers I could find.
I suggest you also get down to an automotive suppliers and get a fluid pump for the trans fluid, as it is hard to get into the box.
You should also order a new mechatronics plug at same time and
it is also VERY toxic to touch and will irritate skin like hell.
Have tried to attach PDF for chnaging mechatronic plug, may not attach, so check online if it doesn't.
NOTE. caution when changing plug, do not touch terminals by hand as static discharge may damage box electronics. Surgical gloves work a treat.
The job itself is not complicated, just requires a bit of care.

Before you put it on, install a drain plug if it doesn't have one.

The ZF pan is the one I had fitted. It had to be special ordered from Germany here in the US.

It has been fine so far, and additionally, the minor judder when starting from a stop is gone.

One trick, for removing the old pan without lifting the engine/mounts at least on a Petrol is to break the neck off the filter, or cut it. The new pan can then be fitted without any need to lift after removing the old pan/filter/neck.

    Interesting information in that link...

    "OUR OPINION ON THIS ITEM:
We recommend servicing this Automatic Transmissions every 36 months or 60,000kms. This transmission may be classed as a sealed transmission with fill for life oil but the LifeGuard 6 oil is only rated to 100,000kms by ZF Friedrichshafen AG."

    Cheers

My indy back in the UK changed the pan on my car 2 days ago and commented that they had to remove the crossmember, one exhaust piece and loosen an engine mount to lift it out of the way to get the sump pan off. I think they were afraid of breaking something else by snapping off the neck of the the filter, but I guess that's a lesson learnt on their behalf.
