    Winch hooks

Went out on sat up to the wombat to maps some tracks for some up coming trips and camping nights with thw family.
A mate got stuck in his D2 and i went to winch him out and as soon as i got him out and the calbe went lose the hook snaped.. Yes i had the calbe bag on as well it was a light pull and about 3mtrs long...

1 Has this happen to anyone?

2 Going to run a D shackle as a point know.

I bought a cheap cleaved hook for my winch a while back.
While it was the same size as the origional Warn one I didn't like it.
It looked it might do as yours did
Ended up with a yellow one from a rigging shop rated higher than the cable.
    Cheers, Kyle

Never trust the cheap winch hooks..

Go to a rigging shop as mentioned above.

I now use a chain onto the eye direct with either a shackle Or a hammerlock.

the end of the chain has a self closing eye type fitting on it.

Use a Rated shackle in the eye of the rope, stronger and safer, Regards Frank.

Funny that. I put a rated bow shackle on my rope as the hook I had on the original cable wouldn't go over the thimble. Had it on for ages now and it works a treat, better than a hook I think.
