Do you actually KNOW any Americans?
Sure there are cultural differences but most of them are just like you and me (well, I can't vouch for you) - perfectly normal people.

Naturally the element of the population that is extreme (ie deliverance style swamp people, fools on you tube and tacky TV like Judge Judy etc) are the ones getting the publicity in the rest of the world but that doesn't mean you should characterize a whole people on the basis of a few morons.

    Wake up.

    Sorry to touch a nerve.
I must admit I do prefer the Canadians to yanks.
I must be unlucky as most Yanks I have come across here are loud mouths.

Being in the oil industry I have had a lot to do with Americans over the last fifty years, and have lost track of how many times I have been there. In my experience they come in all varieties, same as Australians. Sure there are some systematic differences, but not all that much*. The major difference is that having ten times Australia's population, and twice the history with a more diverse range of cultures, you are much more likely to find extremes.

*Compared to Australians, Americans are, in my experience, more likely to attend church, more likely to hold what we would regard as crackpot ideas (creationists, Ufologists, various conspiracy theories etc.), and probably in general more prone to violence than here.
