    MAF do I need it?

    Hi
I have a 96 disco with 137.000 ks converted to gas.
I have been tinkering around an discovered that my MAF has know mesh in it, is this right for a gas converted disco, do they remove it for some reason?

While tinkering I found that when I disconnected the MAF the car drives and idols fine on gas or petrol, why is this I thought the MAF was important in fact I removed the MAF and put a cone filter right up to the gas thingy.
Can anyone confirm what I've done is ok or not.
    Cheers

Your MAF mesh has been blown out by an LPG backfire. Ask me how I know.

assuming your LPG system is a simple mixer type and not gas injected.
it will run fine on LPG without the MAF, as the LPG system is independent to the EFI system, LPG is simply fed to air intake by the mixer from the converter

However, running on petrol without the MAF is a different story
IT will run, but very rich, (be like driving around with a choke on)
the EFI system needs the MAF

a backfire can cause damage to the MAF,

    Thanks for the quick replies.
So until I get a new MAF there's no prob in leaving it the way it is?
Can you guys point me in the right direction and price of a new MAF?
    Cheers,

I had a look on eBay but the only
MAF that I could find that looks like mine is $580.
Can i use one of the other ones or does it have to be same as what I have.
    Thanks
