Damaged tow hitch

My wife reversed into a sign post yesterday and as luck would have it ended up breaking part of the green knob and looks to have bent the pin that is attached to the key/locking mechanism

The question is:

1. Will I need to replace the entire cast section or is there a chance that I can get replacement parts

2. Any idea what a replacement hitch would cost and the best place to buy it?

3. Is it safe to tow in this condition even though it does don't appear to have unlocked (me thinks not)

And yes we do have reverse sensors and a camera

2. I brought one then sold it after getting a nice one which didn't drag while off road. Landrover dealer in Doncaster for about $500. I bet you might be able to get one from the UK at a better price or just get the upgrade

I wonder if you visted a locksmith if they might be able to help you? It is a locking mechanism. Might not hurt asking one.

If it makes you feel any better my better half drove mine into the garage with a spare loaded on the roof rack- OUCH, Our gararge door took a lot of panel beating

You can buy the locking mechanism separately for about $30. Part number is KNW500010.

A Mitch Hitch would be cheaper than a new OEM one, and better.

Thanks for the responses thus far. I tried to remove the hitch and as suspected it is not going to be straight forward. Key in and turns to the unload position but just cannot get the green knob to turn at all!!! Now key refuses to come out. Any ideas (pic attahced)

You can drill out the lock and replace it.

and replace it with a mitch hitch! (only mount it when u need it then it can't be damaged!)

I couldn't turn the key very far on mine after not having removed the coupling for almost 2 years, but copious amounts of WD40 around the key and green knob and some gentle tapping of the knob got it moving after a while.

Good news guys... It ended up being a nice easy fix:

1. Select 1 x large shifting spanner
2. Lever between bent shaft and shackle eye
3. A little elbow grease to straighten the shaft
4. And presto the locking mechanism is free and working as it should
5. Put credit card back in the wallet
