    newbie

    hello all
    ive just recently got myself a 1994 v8 es disco. it's a bit of a foreign world as ive been around pajero's , cruisers maimly. any tips or advise from those in the no, good / bad or otherwise would be appreciated. thanx

    The only bad news I have for you....is that Pommy cars tend to grow on you , like fungus. Or a beard. If you don't scrape it off immediately you'll end up covered in the stuff.

    In all fairness, they don't break down much more than any other car, but what a LR breaks/wears out/needs adjustment is stuff that works perfectly and forever on Jap stuff. Such as electrics, and the idea that all switches are 'consumable items'...

    Then there are the quirks that irk ex-Jap owners... Like needing to keep the cooling system 110% perfect, 'cos the consequences are horrendous, such as heater cores leaking, engines cooking - almost fatal for the v-8 liners- and water pumps corroding.

    Then there is the engine room. Small and crowded by older Jap standards, so it runs very hot indeed, which shortens the life of all rubber hoses. So don't expect the same lifetime as what you're used to... Or working space.

    Bottom line is, you can't mistreat them the way we neglected Jap stuff.

    On the other hand, you'll find unbelievable support amongst the members, and mountains of good info.

    Upside is, you'll end up a better Mechanic, whether you want to or not...

    i dont know about that my 95 300 TDi is a LOT easier to work on than my SD33T Nissan Patrol diesel, goes better too due to more power
    Bottom line is, you can't mistreat them the way we neglected Jap stuff
    yep you cant be brain dead and drive them
