    Windscreen and Wiper Sensor

Got a couple of cracks in the windscreen and will have to get it replaced before too long.

I know that the wiper sensor also has to be replaced but do not know why this has to be done. I assume that the sensor is not actually part of the windscreen so can someone explain how it is connected to the windscreen and why it needs to be replaced.

    Cheers

    Wiper sensor location.

The windscreen wiper auto operation sensor that I am familiar with is located at the top and on the inside of the windscreen glass behind the interior centre located rear view mirror.

There is a two piece plastic cover that sits behind the mirror that separates apart to reveal a collection of small electrical wires and a rectangular clip about 1" wide x 2" high. The bracket holds what appears to be a collection of small LED's arrayed on a sort of clear plastic rectangle. In my case, the array of "LED's" had become unclipped and when I reset the array into the clip, my windshield wipers did the moisture sensing thing more as I thought it should.

From all this, I concluded that what you probably get when you purchase the new windscreen with attached sensor, is the the clip and perhaps the array. It was not clear to me that the clip was supposed to be separate from the array but if so, it would seem that if one could somehow remove the plastic bracket from the old windscreen, you could then glue it to the new one in hopefully the correct location, and then re-clip the original array back in.

    Others may disagree.

Speak to Obrien Glass in Fyshwick ( the Branch Manager is a great bloke ) They can give you all the relevant information.

Yass windscreens just swapped the sensor over $440 for the replacement windscreen. The sensor operates the same as it always did.

Can anyone tell me if O'briens fitted the OEM replacement or a cheaper alternative ?

I've heard the XYG (chinese) screens are weaker than OEM and scratch more easily??

Also some of the OEM screens have the opticool glass. Big difference right there

Any help appreciated before I get a new one next week.
