    Disco Wave

I'd like to apologise to the driver of a Nara Bronze D4 who waved to me (white D3) this morning in Wahroonga.

Totally stock looking - took me by complete surprise so I didn't wave back.

Since its something you don't see every day, I wondered if it was someone on here?

    Cheers,
    Jon

Something you don't see much of now Jon.
I think it was the turn of the century before last, back in the days of Boy Scouts, when one of my scout leaders had a military style Landrover troop carrier (not sure of the exact name of the model).
Anyway, I remember he would always give the Landrover wave to fellow Landrover owners. You used to get a wave back almost every time.

I still make a point of waving to other Landrover owners, only its turned into a gidday, rather than the traditional wave.
    Not too many respond though.

    Cheers, Craig

I used to get the rover wave when driving the D1 then noticed the wave was rarely returned when in the D3.

Try hanging a caravan off the back this is currently working for me but then again could be a grey nomad thing

    Happy waving

On a trip away last month I waved at every LR I came across. 3/4 of the way there I gave up for the lack of responses. The very next LR (white D2) that came along give me a wave at the last second -surprised the hell out of me such that I practically fell over myself trying to get one back to him. Not sure that he saw it - probably thought I was just another one of those D4 snobs!

Anyway, found this and thought it a good read about the LR wave:

Sad but true Land Rover / Range Rover divers don't like to wave.

We also have Mini or 2 and Mini drivers are more likely to wave... When towing the van well some days you get RSI from all the waves... But strangely the more expensive the tug the less likely they will wave back. That includes Land Rover / Range Rover divers.

I wave to a Landie that is kitted out for 4wding but no others - most these days are driven by soccer mums who have no idea what they are driving - it is just a car nothing more.

90% of landies sold these days are not used to maximise their off-road abilities.

As a kid and travelling in my dad's County 110, the wave was a guarantee and dad always gave a wave as well.

I've since bought a D1 and never bother with the wave - mostly because no one else does it. How do we bring back the wave?! The only disclaimer is, if I saw another D1 that looked like it does off roading, I'd give a wave still. It would be rude not to!

How do we bring back the wave?

Lets all simply start to do it again regardless of landrover model or set up. Acknowledge we have a common interest and I don't know how others feel but it brings a smile to my face when someone responds.
