    D3 2.7TD

    Gday all,

Seriously considering a LR D3 as my current 4x4 (MK Triton 2.8td) just doesn’t have the torque for towing my 19' fibreglass boat.
I love all the standard features the LR have and have been reading a lot about the model. I don’t have a budget to consider the D4 although its 3L td looks like an awesome bit of kit.

Are there any things I need to watch for in buying a used D3?

Most recommend a third party warranty. Are they worth the paper they are written on?
There seems to be a theme that once the new car warranty is expired most offload the car as there is to much of a liability??

I am located in Sydney and will be trying to organise a test drive of a D3 sometime in the next few weeks.

    Cheers

    Aaron

Go as late as you can afford, make sure it has all the service books filled out, there's not a lot major that goes wrong with the D3/D4/RRS, depending on the Ks, get the gearbox serviced, LR say it's a sealed for life box, but it is recommended it be serviced at around 80,000 to 100,000ks, especially if it has been towing and a lot of them have, one of the reasons they are so popular now, they are a great tow wagon.

Good luck, they are a great car, there are a lot around and on this site with over 200.000ks on them with no major problems.

To back up the above you can buy a metal pan for them and that makes changing oil a breeze in the tranny.
    Cheers
