D4 ARB / OL Bullbar and headlight removal

    Hello all.

For those with the ARB or OL bars fitted can you shed some light on the ability (or lack of ability) to remove the front grille to change the headlight globes should the need arise.

Looking at the photos in the various posts the bar uprights sit very close to the grille.

    Regards Trif.

Removing the grill is ok on my OL bar. Just a little fiddly but easy enough.
Also I had to remove headlight to fit the LR light protectors.....again fiddly but easy enough.

With all the bars it is no problem removing the grille.
Depending obviously if you dont have driving light wiring coming through the grille
The issue is removing the head light fully to gain access to the rear of the head light to replace certain globes, as some you need to remove a part of the light to replace the globe.
I know on the D3 you "cannot" remove the head light fully. It is a real pain in the preverbial to replace certain globes.
The owners of a D4 with bar may be able to advise.
    I havent changed a globe in a D4 yet

    Hi Brett

Are the LR light protectors you mention for the D4 or D3, as I was told LR no longer make them for the D4 head lights. I scarred myself silly when I asked them the replacement cost of a Xenon light assembly and was told $1500 per unit !!!

    Cheers

They are....factory front and tail light protectors. Black abs plastic. They want stop rocks unless the rock is well placed.

Howdy Trif, If you go with the ARB bar just make sure they have fitted one before successfully. ARB head office in Adelaide took 2 days to fit mine, front parking sensors wouldnt work after installation. They were fixed by changing out the rubber grommets around each sensor and by setting the sensors forward slightly from the bar, however the first drive in the rain the sensors failed. The sensors had to be replaced by Solitaire landrover as they had been damaged by ARB in the installation. Also the gap between the wings of the bar and the bottom of the headlights needed to be addressed, meant to be 10mm according to fitting instructions but was more like 1 inch, (way too much).

Hello IpanemaD4SE. Obviously the mines must be quiet at the moment .

Since my earlier post l've received a resounding 'NO' from ARB regarding fitment to a D4 HSE. Yes, the ARB bar can be made to fit BUT it must be modified. Places like Manell Motors in Sydney can do this but l don't want to risk insurance coverage should the need arise and the insurance company gets picky.

The OL bar is visually very similar to the ARB version but IMO superior in overall finish (it has rubber inserts around the fog lights and under the headlights to fill the void). Also it has the holes for the parking sensors pre-drilled so is ADR compliant (and insurance friendly), and the local OL dealership lads are landrover enthusiasts.

    Regards Trif.
