    DOES THIS AFFECT YOU

Land Rover North America has issued a recall notice for certain 1995 – 1999 Discovery SUVs, 1999 – 2004 Discovery II SUVs, and the 1995 Range Rover Classic. The recall concerns faulty driveshaft couplings manufactured between April of 2011 and November of 2011 and installed as service parts. 180 vehicles are affected by this recall.
    NHTSA Summary

According to the summary on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, “some of the rear driveshaft couplings may not have been manufactured to the required engineering design specifications and may exhibit the onset of joint separation, precluded by driveline vibration.” In summary, the coupler may cause driveshaft vibration and eventually experience catastrophic failure and detach from the vehicle while in motion.
    Service Part Recall

The driveshaft couplings being recalled are actually replacement service parts manufactured between April of 2011 and November of 2011. You will want to pay special attention to the recall if your vehicle falls into the model years listed below and has recently had a driveshaft coupler replaced or if you recently purchased a used Land Rover of the affected model years.
Land Rover retailers will be replacing the rear driveshaft couplings at no charge.

I assume this recall is for the rear doughnut? I doubt that there would be many 13 to 17 year old D1's that would still have the original doughnut. Mine is a 96 model and I changed mine about three years ago.

It's about replacement couplings fitted as service replacement parts.

The recall concerns faulty driveshaft couplings manufactured between April of 2011 and November of 2011 and installed as service parts
