Brake controller

Finished fitting an electric brake controller on my 2007 RRS as per sniegy,s instruction thread , just need to fit the 3 amp diode before suplying power to it , Question - the wire used for the 5 pin in the Trailer plug ( Brown one ) was originaly for half the marker lights and has a 5 amp fuse fitted in the fuse holder at the rear lhs , as it is now used for eletric brakes should this fuse be upgraded to say 10 amp ??? or left at 5 amps . ??

Tekonsha, suggest no fuse in the line, in your situation fitting the largest fuse that will fit (after checking the gauge of the copper in the wiring).

But personally I'd (will be) be running a dedicated cable to the rear. My series Land Rover trailer has 4 wheel electric braking.

Obviously the wiring is slightly different for a RRS than the D4 that Sniegy's post was for! Either I'd suggest a separate dedicated wire too, or at least short that fuse position out, only AFTER making sure you have the recommended self resetting circuit breaker on the controller SUPPLY line(from the battery).

Obviously ANY fuse on the BRAKE supply line is a possible danger. The circuitry safety should only be provided in this case by the controllers supply line fuse/breaker.

No need to touch the fuses, the brown wire (if done the same as the Discovery 3 write up-as they have the same wiring architecture) is the supply wire for your electric brakes now so it does not have a fuse either.

Yes job done as you described , must have had a brain freeze i forgot that the blue wire from the b/c goes to the now cut off brown wire to pin 5 and not through the fuse block . Been a long day thanks.
