    Split Rims - source of?

    Help Please.....

I am not seeking to start or reignite any religious debate about wheels and tyres, but does anyone know of a source of 16" split rims for a current Defender.

    Purchase? Import? Manufacture? Modify?

    Many thanks

kubota front rims are the right pattern for a deefer. If you get the right model.

    Split rim part number: BYG5324

Otherwise get yourself 5 Toyota split rims & take to Wheel works & they will happily make some LR pattern centres

Also I saw some on a ex army Defender in a Sydney car yard (Alexandra or Rockdale I think) , might be worth a try checking out carsales etc to see if you can spot the one & see if the Dealer will swap for some regular rims

Never seen a Kubota split rim ?? I just sold my 2 4x4 Kubotas b1700 & L2500 one had 16 rear wheels, one had 16" front wheels both solids & neither were LR stud pattern !!

    Morry lorry rims

The old source of split rims was 1950's Morris commercials.
They had wheels that went onto the Land Rover stud pattern and if I remember correctly, the center hole had to be eased a little as it was too tight to go straight onto the hub.

The first of my split rims that I got my hands on came off of a kubota, not a small one with 16 rears, an older one, bout the size of an old school fergy with 16s on the front.

i have a set of 6 from a perentie, need some blasting and coating but will get round to it soon. as they are hard to find nowadays, i would graft some disco centres onto cruiser rims i reckon, then you could pick your offset too

Eastern wheel works willl do that job easily.

Only problem is the outside diameter of a defer or disco centre is more than an inch less than the inside diameter of tojo rim.

The centre will need to be fabbed

ah, yes that would explain why i haven't yet seen anyone do that. i thought it was due to cost etc, but a fabbed centre would probably be stronger, anyhow.

thats not a problem, landy steelies arent located by the center, the taper on the wheel nuts does all the work, the center is just to help you get located enough to get the rim on the hub with the studs lined up near enough in the first place.
