    written off Td5, wont start

    Hi all

I rolled my TD5 at 100kph on monday (tyre blow out and lost control) .

Iv bought it back off the insurance company to strip it for spares , however I want to check if it starts. It wont start at the moment but there is that much broken wires, etc that it is probably just an imobilisor problem . when i press the keyfob to unlock the imobilisor not much happens! i think the electrics are all a bit confused.

Is there anyway to bypass all this to check the motor still runs alright before I remove it?

blooming ek, a 100kph blow out on a defender = roll over!?

Were you running suspension mods, huge tires or a loaded roof rack?

Glad your ok and still have a rover to tinker with- dunno about the TD5 sorry.

Have you reset the roll-over cut-out switch on the engine side of the firewall?

30mm x 30mm x 60mm high with black rubber reset button on top, passenger side of centre.

Mate, glad you made it without physical harm! A truck can always be replaced. As for the engine, it is probably the cut-off switch activated. Before starting the engine you should remove all injectors and check for oil, otherwise you may get a hydrolock and destroy the engine completely.

    Defender or D2?

If a Defender possibly the firewall button as mentioned.

If a D2 it's going to be a tad more complicated methinks. I daresay some of the sensors for the body ECU have been damaged, and now the body ECU won't talk to the engine ECU. Don't quote me, but I think there are even sensors in the roof somewhere.

Defender section... so we suppose Defender?

BTW - Disco 2 also has a "impact cut-off" as part of it's "limp home" engine protection system. Found that out on an icy winters morning in Worcestershire (stupid place to have a tree..)

Yeah.. except the OP's key fob sounds fancier than mine. What Td5 Defender has an immobiliser?

Our's does, 2004 TD5 90 xtreme. Glad chris mack is ok after the roll. I still am fearful of this in a Defender.

yes its a 2003 extreme 110 defender. Il check the rollover switch tomorrow, not sure though i still feel it may be some form of imobilisor issue.. normally pressing the unlock key on the fob causes the indicators to flash but it wont now. and the first time i tried to start it there was a click from the starter motor but now nothing. poor car is a bit unhappy!
