Exhaust Options

I went to replace the system that came out & found it holed in 4 places. Repairing it was futile as the MIG just blew more holes in it!

Ergo, I will need a new system made up.

Any suggestions from ppl who have gone down this path before re materials, muffler type, how to hang it, is it worth following the orig LR route, etc?

I'm about to do the same job with my new power plant, I will be following the original route, albeit with larger diameter pipe to suit the bigger engine, most likely in stainless steel as well.

I also like intergrating mufflers into the pipework, using large diameter piping and internal baffles, but that's just me.

When I made a system for my P6 I got the exhaust shop chaps to find two mufflers in stainless steel that would suit the car; this they did by cross-referencing in their catalogue.

In your case I think it would be cheaper and easier to fit a standard system, which are readily available, with a custom made front pipe,

So Charlie, you suggest buying Series 2A system off the shelf & then get the front bit made up to suit the Holden?

Yes - but thinking about it a bit more, get the exhaust chappies to work out if the 4 cyl mufflers will suit the Holden six; or perhaps investigate the possibility of the Rover six cylinder system being adapted to the Holden engine.

I'll have to check on the muffler situation but my DeeDee runs the exhaust system through the chassis holes for the rear power take-off shaft and exits directly back through the rear cross member. Keeps it a very straight run, and well clear of any potential damage, I 'spose. I'll assume at this stage that the muffler is simply in-line between the middle and rear cross member. (That's how it came to me).

I've ordered the intermed & end (muffler) & tail-pipe) sections.

The local exhaust chappie said that an 85mm (approx) ID is plenty wide enough for a 186 eng and they will be easily able to make up an engine pipe to connect to the intermed section.

Can someone pls post a photo to show how the tailpipe exits relative to the rear mudguard/mudflap for a tray back?

Is there meant to be a cut-out to allow the tailpipe to pass? One of my guards has a cut out but the exhaust I removed exited under the RH taillights.

I got exhaust technologies in adelaide to fit extractors and exhaust system and they put the pipe out through the hole for the PTO shaft

i will try and take some pics and post tomorrw if you like

Thnx, H, but I have the OE system so it has to go out the side near the rear wheel.
