Removing bulkhead vent flaps.

What is the best way to remove the bulkhead vents under the windscreen? Is it just a matter of removing the two nuts on the back of the vent flap? If it is access is a real bugger

Removing the bonnet seems like it would make the job easier but I thought I should check to make sure I am on the right path.

Be careful with the bolts on the vents. I've had a couple snap off

For me, it was a matter of driving out the 2 hinge pins, then remove the 2 screws that hold the controls to the dash, then gently maneuver the whole thing out.


...... But yes, if your vent bolts are ok, that would be the easiest way to go, I think.

I would remove the bonnet just in case as well. Very easy to put a dent in it when you lean that far over and lose your balance.

Should be a 60 second job for two people to get that 300Tdi's bonnet off...

Thanks guys. I did indeed remove the bonnet and on my own took about 5 minutes, it is surprisingly light. All was going well until I rounded off one of the bolts on the vent flap I think it was rusted in and didn't care to move. So I have taken a breather and will now try your method d@rk51d3.

In the meantime I also removed the door seals, one of which contained an ants nest .

No worries mate. I did get one and half off. Tomorrow I will have a look at what I can do.

When I did mine I drilled out the pins and replaced them with SS bolts, washers and nyloncs.

Hopefully never have to do again.

Mine has turned out to be a bit of a pain in the you know what, just because of one stubborn bolt. My dash is coming out and I have found some more little rust spots so I may as well take the opportunity to fix them up.

This has all taken a back seat though as my Rijidij rear wheel carrier turned up today .

I love that I can fit series bits onto my county, and County bits are interchangeable with Defenders, I took out my 1985 A/C abomination and fitted a 2001 Defender dash and a 2004 Defender underdash A/C. All bolted straight in AND with a bit of electrickery I am fitting a 2001 Defender electronic speedo and transducer too, to get rid of the needle flicker and gain some accuracy!

Could you give more details on El. speedo fitment when you finish pls,
also should make it easier to fit Cruise to earlier defenders?
