			Transfer case problem?

Today i was wiring up the reverse lights on my 92 defender ute, 200tdi, lt77, and lt230 and noticed something odd. It makes a rattly noise with the centre diff in neutral and the clutch disengaged. The gearbox cover was off, so it could've been occurring before and I didn't realise, although it is quite a sharp rattle that increases with engine speed.
Last week I swapped the oils in engine, gearbox and transfer and it hasn't been driven since. I took it for a quick run on a private test street (its currently unregistered) and it didn't make any odd noises or rattles.
Is this normal or is it the transfer case on its last legs?
Are there any other tests i can do
I'm handy with the spanners, but haven't played with clutches or gearboxes yet.
 Cheers,
 Joe
