i'd say a fair few use rover diff's stuffed full of ashcroft goodness...
hi all
i have spent the night drooling over pics of 90s used for winch challenge in the Uk.
It looks like they all run rover rear diffs with 35 inch tires..
Does any body on here know how well they hold up? (the diff) do they last because they mainly drive in mud?
cheers wmd

I think you will find that it is due to the relatively cheap cost factor, when compared to a Salisbury, especially when taking into account mods etc,and also the ready availability of Rover diffs over there.
I don't have any problems with my Salisbury and 35's.

On my winch challenge 90 I had Arb lockers with 4.7 Kam strengthened ring and pinions , which sort out the diff out . I had Maxi drive shafts. I had this front and rear apart from also having GKN over load protectors on the front axle.
This was with the 35" simex extreme Trekkers.
This sorted out any problem and I gave my 90 plenty of crap at competitions with no problem . The bloke I sold the truck to still uses this set up and working fine.
My old 90 , but this was 7 years ago, wanted to bring it to Aus but Aquis would have had a fit

Nice rig Reads90
Is that thing sticking out the front hub the over load protection?
How's it work ? Is it a fuse?
Cheers WMD
I run a 90 that was set up for challenge events in the Uk which I brought out with me a few years ago.
In the rear I run ARB Locker / Hytuff rear axles / std crown wheel and pinion with 35 13.5 r15 Krawlers.
It gets hammered and as of yet the cw+ps are still holding up, which is more that could be said for the layshaft!
(Having said that, I did notice 2 slightly chipped teeth on the back one last week when I had it out for an ARB seal replacement)
if they do fail I will just put in the new 3.5 set from Ashcrofts.... I dont need the ratio reduction.

The would basically realise the power just before the breaking point of the Cv. Can be adjusted if you are using a stronger CV's
This meant you could put the front lockers in and do donuts at full bore with out breaking the front axel. Also worked well with power on the front and landing on a spinning wheel.
Worked like a sort of central fugal clutch

Hi
Found some pics . Have to remember that I did this 9 years ago to my 90
The normal diff on right my diff on left
Land rover ring on right and Kam ring on left which can take 500bhp
Both ring and pinions replace due to strength and changing gear from defender gearing to series gear this was done due to the larger Tyres
This was my complete front axle set up
Notice the GKN overload protector on the left . With this I ran standard CV's and standard front shafts with no problems
