			285 on a 7" rim??

Hi Guys. Just starting to get the shopping list rolling for my 2010 wagon. Lots of goodies ( & $). Tyres...I know, I know. Have read lots of info & threads and will was looking to 265's to replace the OEM when finally the time comes. I notice in the current edtion of 4WD Action (#160) the article Hidden Gems has the Fender with SVX edition alloys (I also grabbed a set at purchase) running 285/75R16???? These are also a 7" mag as per standard. Didn't think it was doable but would certainly look at the option. What say the brains trust?

 Miker.

When I searched this a few years ago, I think 1 or 2 tyres from Mickey Thompson were the only ones where the manufacturer recommended for down to 7" wide rims for that tyre. I don't know of any these days. Most require 8" rims, but thats not to say that they wont fit on a 7" rim.

Hi lambrover. No expert and I've always run stock on 3 fenders now. I've just not seen that spec tyre mentioned in general chat about options. What do you mean "boost" mags.

I have 285/75/R16 BFG AT on my 16x7 Zu Rims (Def90).

They have been on for at least 3 years (only a year on the zu's) have been driven all around europe in all kinds of conditions covering many thousands of km's. I have never had any issues or punctures which is great because they weigh a ton to get on and off the spare wheel carrier!

					Hi,

I had a set of 285/75's on boost alloy's on my 08' 110. They rubbed on the upper rear spring mounts when cornering or off road. Tassy was a killer, smoke in the cab

Might pay to buy something with a resonable offset.

 Cheers, Tristan

					Miker,

I agree with Tristan, the +33mm standard offset of Land Rover OEM Alloys (Boost, SVX and "Saw Tooth") just have the 285's running a bit too close to your coils and with a bit of sidewall flex or articulation they will rub. Having said that though, I've also seen a fair number of Defenders with 285's fitted on Boosts...

If you've already spent the money on speciality OEM alloys I'd personally stay with 265 as max width.

The ZU Alloys mentioned earlier in the thread is +12mm offset which by default moves the inside sidewall 21mm further out from the coil, hence no rubbing with 285's, which in fact fit fine on the 7" ZU's (BFG at least from experience).
