    Towing with 09 Defender HCPU

I am towing a 22'6" caravan, I am using 6th gear for towing on flat roads, at about 90 - 95 k's. At about 2000 rpm, is this ok or should I be using 5th, is the gearbox strong enough to keep doing this or should I be changing my driving habits. I have been wondering if 4th or 5th is direct or overdrive.

    Thanks in advance

Overdrive gears are not the strongest drive option in a manual box, the one to one ratio is the strongest. However I have no idea how strong the puma gearbox is, it might be ok on the flat. Your EGT might get a bit higher than if towing in a lower gear.

I tow a 21ft (2.7t unloaded) van on my 90 without any problems in 6th gear on the flat (hwy's etc) and haven't had any problems or felt that I was overloading the car..

If you don't labour it too hard you should be fine.
