    Fat 101.

I was getting my boat trailer rego checked the other day and was curious about how heavy the boat and trailer was.
The tow vehicle these days is the 101 and it use to be a defender TDI300 130.
Defender was never happy pulling the boat , but it did handle the weight it self with ease.
The 101 pulls the boat with about the same performance as the defender, but just does it with less fuss and good start off in first gear.
On the way home I took the combination over the weight bridge.
    101 2.48 tonnes
    Boat/trailer2.56 tonnes.
    combination.....5.04
I was supprized and will have to fit vacuum breakaway brakes to the 101.
The boat had a empty fuel tank and takes 200litres of fuel which is equal to about another 175 kg.
The gas and fuel tank on the 101 was all most empty, which would add another 130 kg if full
The above exercise shows the 101 is a great little tow wagon if not thirsty with that sort of load.
Why is my 101 over 500 kg over weight when it should be about 2000kg instead of 2500kg.

This is what I have came up with.
    65 litre LPG tank....empty.....about 40 kg ?????T
The front Bullbar is steel and of very thick section thoughout......about 60 kg ???
twin jerrycan holders on rear.......with empty jerry cans 10kg each equals 20 kg.
The side jerry can holder was full going over the weight bridge, so I add 20 kg for the water and about 5 kg for the alloy and steel holder.....25 kg.
The extra tool box with winching shackels and snatch strap etc, the box is alloy constrution....................................... .......................20 kg
front air tank, engine driven compressor, horn etc...................10 kg
empty fridge in the back when over the weight bridge.................30 kg
Tools in the tool boxes at rear wheel arches...............................20 kg.
Heavier tyres............................................. ..I wouldnt have a clue.

Extra tow bar arrangement....................................... ........ 10kg
I cannot think of anything else.
It is interesting the 200 kg drawbar down load doesnt worry the 101 back suspension on a short wheel base and in fact it doesnt move at all, but the front suspension does rise very slightly

I do have another 10 mtrs of 9mm steel winch cable.
    Cast iron ARB diff covers.........??????
Even allowing for that and other small things my 101 should be 300 kg too fat and not 500 kg.
