clean well then wrap the sensor in a little bit of electrical tape and gently twist it to free it up and lift as you turn it back and forth by a couple of degrees.
After reading many posts on the subject (mostly related to D2's), I'd like to remove my ABS sensors 1 by 1 and clean (ABS light is on all the time, traction control light keeps coming on and then going off again, no faults logged).
Rave says prize them out, question is how? They appear round and smooth with nothing to leaver off/against.
Wheel bearings all feel and sound fine. Speedo reacts on each wheel when jacked up and engine driven.
Any experiences or suggestions?

I used to have similar problems with my ABS on the defender (2002). I would firstly check the main power supply to the ABS unit. On the defender there is a large cable connection on the side of the brake pedal box, that powers the ABS unit. Mine was loose- ABS, TC and brake light warning light constantly on. Fixed it. Next check each individual wheel sensor cable connection. Follow the cable up from the wheel sensor until you find the connection. I sprayed mine with CRC- probably the wrong thing to do. Next, prize out the wheel sensors with two flat bladed screw drivers. You can get the screw driver blade under the lip of the plastic top. Perhaps note the fitted depth first. Then clean with CRC or similar. CRC fixes everything! This seemed to fix intermittent ABS / TC light coming on. Mine hasn't come on for years. Good luck.

Check the ECU wiring, sounds like it could be ECU related. If it was a sensor you would have fault codes.
The ECU can detect faulty sensors.
Bad earth can give intermittent problems. Worth a look I think.

Problem fixed...
After having the ABS and T/C light on for about a year, following on from this thread I decided to pull the sensors out and see why I could see.
Front sensors, clean as a whistle, so I put them back in.
Rear sensors, caked in crud and clay!
I took them out, cleaned the sensors best I could and put the vacuum against the hub hole to suck out and dust, put the sensors back in and voila, no more lights on the dash!!!
I'm a happy bunny again... For now!
