Mystery "ANR 6563" nuts with Folding Side Steps

    Gentlemen,

The ever reliable Rimmer Bros have delivered a pair of side steps for my MY12 90. (Hopeless website but the order was placed on Thursday night and the products arrived on Tuesday morning...magic.)

A picture of what arrived is available here:

Folding Side Step - Genuine Land Rover at www.rimmerbros.co.uk

The two black parts on the LHS are ANR 6563 Special Nuts. There is no mention of their use in the installation instructions. Any ideas why they have been included?

They look like nutserts (rivnuts) and from the fitting instructions boxes 7-8 one is fitted to a hole drilled into the chassis to mount the support bar to. The instructions only indicate one is supplied.

Correct. The two nuts are in addition to the parts specified on those instructions.

Not unusual to get an extra bolt or nut or two with some genuine parts. Use one as described in the instructions and keep the other for something else.

The nuts are as Derek has said rivnuts/nutserts & come with the kit because the kit has been around since the early Defender & possibly "Series" vehicles. The rivnuts/nutserts were not fitted to the chassis & you had to fit them yourself.
So where you bolted the stabilizer bar to the chassis that is where it already has one fitted..

    Cheers

With my MY12 vehicle, there was a hexagonal shaped hole pre-drilled for the rivnut, so it takes some work to get the round nut to 'bite'. I would recommend that you have a look on youtube on how to DIY if you have not used rivnuts before.
