    Smart Key Battery Low

Had the message "Smart Key Battery Low" flash up on the dash on the weekend.
Just wondering if other D4 owners have had this happen as yet?
Mine is a Sept 09 build. I would assume that the battery would be running low by now??

    Interested to hear from others.

    Cheers, Craig

    Hi Mate,

I have the same model and same build. I've replaced both batteries.

The scary part was the fact that I was 4 hours away from home when the first warning came on and it was "Smart Key Not Found" well before the end of the trip.

They (the batteries) are easy to change and I now carry a couple of spares in the glove box.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

It's like a normal key that you insert into the ignition.
It charges the key battery whilst it's inserted.

    Hi Kev,
What batteries does the smart key take??
I have started using my spare smart key as it has never been used.
Have the D4 booked in this Thursday at ULR Melbourne, so will get them to replace the batteries then......or at least get them to show me how.

Rich - I agree with you. Much better idea having the smart key charge in the ignition, however cant do with the D4.

    Cheers, Craig

I have a 2010 D4, the message occurred in my vehicle over twelve months ago.

I found that it was the key that my wife was carrying in her hand bag at the time that was generating the message. The message disappeared when she got out of the car with her mother to go into 'The Good Guys'. How convenient, I parked, followed them in and bought a pack of two batteries for about $2.40. There is now one spare in the car.

The key that I use all the time is still working fine.

Craig - batteries are CR2032. This vid does a good job of explaining how to change them:
