Key remote not working

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if you can permanently disable the the remote security system other than using the key in the door with the combination to get the car started.
I have contacted the local land rover dealer here and they have advised me that a new remote will cost $350.
Basically i'm looking at doing away with the remote if possible.

A key at $350 is a fair price in Aus. You can get them from a dealer in the UK for less if you have someone local to order and collect.
I dont understand what you are asking. If you dont want to use the remote just stop pressing the buttons and use the key.
The transponder within the key must be present for the car to start as its matched with the BECM. The entry code will get you into the car if its super locked without the alarm going crazy but you wont start the car unless you have a correct key with transponder

My remote stopped working 3 years ago and since then i have had a seperate key cut and have been using that. Locking and unlocking car via drivers side door , car still alarms using the key have thought about installing aftermarket kit to operate drivers side door lock motor , found some drawings on the net so it can be done and a lot cheaper than buying 1 remote for $350.0 dollars and less headaches such as lockouts .

I believe you can, its a setting BECM?

I currently do not use a key fob, just a cut key. So that means I open and shut the car from the drivers door. And of course start it

I have ordered a blank key fob from a USA mob for just under $200. (They sent the wrong one so currently awaiting the swapover) This will be an intreresting experiment.

Well if you guys are opening your cars and starting them with just a plain old metal key then I am completely wrong in my understanding that it needs a transponder in the fob to start the car. I though an immobiliser was manditory in Australia


This mob in the UK (SAY THEY) can copy Fobs ( transponders ) if anyone is interested

This EKA code when entered gives access to the cab and allows the engine to be started without an active key fob or working 'chip' just a correctly cut key blade . The computer gives you three attempts before it locks out the system for 30 mins - just what you need at night in the cold and rain . The engine management system stays inactive for 5 mins after the engine is subequently switched off and in that time the engine can be restarted using the inactive Key blade. After the system has reset itself you need to do the EKA thing again - not handy if you switched the motor off to save fuel [and be environmentlay aware!!] whilst on the highway in a traffic jam !

I am now thinking that the previous owner may have disabled this in the BECM ,
allowing me to use just the key , if the was so would i also be able to use the remote with this disabled ? . I did have one working remote when i bought the car.

So the question that Barabus needs answered is

His only fob does not work. He can get into and start the car with the EKA code
He must use the EKA code every time he wants to use the car.

Can the BECM be programmed or hacked to permanently bypass all security and need only the steel blade key to open and start the car without the need for the EKA sequence.

I think it is time I stopped procrastinating and purchase a Nanocom

These settings are probably involved:
ALARM
Immobiliser: Turns on the passive (self) immobilize function in markets which use it.
Alarm: The alarm can be either enabled or disabled if required. Disabling the alarm prevents the alarm from arming and stops all audible and visual activity whenever the vehicle is locked or unlocked. It does not affect the immobilization.

Although locking my car with just the key does flash the indicators.

This is my current mode of operation.. and acording to the previous owner how he was doing it for years.
