    D3 = serious price?

really that much? I would have thought that half that would be high price.

    Oh well ?

What about one cut to go surfing = no electrics?

    anyone?

Those days have gone where you can tuck the key into the wetty and go for a surf.

The key cut & programmed to the vehicle is between $400-$500 depending where you go.
If you order through a dealer then it is a UK VIN order only.
You can get a blade only cut as some locksmiths will & can do it, but are few & far between. This means removing the door cap on the passenger side to get in find remote & turn off alarm!

    Cheers

Sorry, but is this a fact, or fantasy, not that it would fit in the wetsuit anyway.

I know its multi function and I know the battery is charged when in the ignition but i cant see it going swimming.

Thanks for all the other information - everyone

It was promoted as such by Land Rover but I wouldn't like to put it to the test.

I'm laughing at this thread with experience, yesterday my 14 month old son had hold of my keys when I was taking the shopping in. I heard a splash & the keys went into the dogs water bowl. They would've been in there for about 30 sec, wiped them off & it works fine.

Key Blade LR part # CWF500011SW

In July 2011, my LR dealer ordered me per the part number above for my LR3, a factory cut to serial number, key blade only, (no key fob).

When the cut key blade arrived from the UK, my dealer then gave me a non working old LR3 key fob into which I inserted the new cut key blade. I now have same wrapped in a plastic bag and located under the 3 so I can get access via the hidden key hole should I lock my working key fob assembly inside.

In other words, yes, you can create a "swimming key" that can at least mechanically get you into your 3. Cost for the cut key blade shipped from the UK via Land Rover Parts was $CDN 41.77 plus taxes and included cutting in the UK.

From date of order, it took about six weeks to actually receive the cut key blade. I then had to prove I still owned my 3 before they would turn the prepaid cut blank over to me.

I suggest that you order the blade factory cut as if you believe the stories, the factory blank is of a harder metal than is common and hence local locksmiths often cannot properly cut the metal.
