I have a strange noise on my Disco 3 V8. It is a whirring noise (sounds like a worn bearing) which increases with engine revs. At first I thought it was the Aircon compressor as when I put the Aircon on economy the noise goes away. The Auto electrician has checked and confirms it's not the Aircon compressor. He said the noise sounds as if it's coming from behind the dash. So any clues as to what it may be?
TIA
Ivan
Hi Ivan, from memory the aircom compressors on late model Disco's actually are running all the time, not like old compressor units that clicked in when you turned them on.
if the sound happens after you turn on the air the maybe it could be the fan inside the cabin.
I had a strange mechanical noise that happened recently when the engine was running under load, it turned out to be a bearing in one of the pulleys the serpentine belt runs around. Took two visits to the workshop for it to be found and fixed.

Terry
