    Headlight's

What have people found to be the best semi sealed beam headlights for an 89 Defender. Thank you Paul.

I've got Cibie replacements with a Traxide wiring upgrade. A vast improvement. I did both at the same time so can't say exactly how much I got from each individual change. I think the lights are these:
    7-HCRA-RHD - 7" "E-code" Halogen Low / High Beam Cibie H4 with European
Parking Lamp (for left had traffic, UK, South Africa, Japan, Australia, NZ, but with no included parking lamp
    And wiring kit from:
Headlight Kits (Tim, who is on here)

I've not tried any others except the originals, so not really a good 'survey"

I had some Cibie inserts in the RR, but a few deep water crossings at night ended their life pretty quick, they are expensive but excellent lamps. Now I just use the wipac originals, very cheap ( $55 to $65 each) and a very good beam/ spread, with a Traxide wiring/ relay upgrade. I find even the standard 60/55W H4 globes (+30% ones) are bright enough, I have run 100/90 before that were fantastic but the filaments don't seem to last as long as the 60/55.

Don't know if you get these your way but I fitted Wipac crystals with PIAA extreme white bulbs. Twice as bright now over the standard setup on the Puma.

Quite happy with my Cibie lights - but the big improvement in light is to fit headlight relays (these changes were separate, so I can see the effect of each). This also helps the life of your switches.

Just ordered the Traxide upgrade, the Traxide guy said a lot of his customers intend a globe upgrade but the kit improves the standard lights so well that many are happy with just the kit.

So I would suggest getting the Traxide kit first and seeing how it goes.

I have IPF replacements which have excellent lighting characteristics.

One issue I experienced, was that the insert was loose in the holder and bulb filiaments didn't last but dont know if it was a problem with manufacture or with the Land Rover fittings. Adjusted the holder and no further problems.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I used Hella inserts on my 200tdi Defender back in 04 - was one of the best things I did. Add the wiring upgrade from Traxide and a good set of spotlights and you'll never regret it.

I have used Hella in cars and trucks for yonks. Not overpriced, high quality, excellent vision. I use double relays, heavy gauge wiring and 100/90 QH lamps.
