New 3.0 engine coming - anything I should be asking?

Hi folks, LR UK are shipping a new engine, due to arrive this week for my 2010 3.0 RRS (31,000km), to the dealer. It's booked in for a body-off total engine transplant later in the week.
I've read somewhere that the 2012 version is a bit up on power and torque than the original installation, is that true?
Also, I presume (always a dangerous thing) that the engine will come with whatever is their latest software. But should I be asking the question anyway?
Further, if the engine comes with software X while the original gearbox they bolt it to is tuned with software Y, do the two need to be paired in any way?

I'd rather go in armed with a bit of knowledge than simply expect the dealer to have ticked all the boxes...

Yes, I know it sounds like something LR would have figured out, but they've spent six months and umpteen dealer visits not fixing my engine, which is why they've finally washed their hands and sent a brand new one...

I know there are two tune specs on UK 3.0s so not sure what you will get - I assume the engines are actually basically the same and different specs are derived by the ECU programming. On that I would assume you will not be getting engine software and they will just plug in the new engine into your current systems with the latest ECU software upgrade installed. I doubt your new engine will come with new looms, ECUs etc.

Thanks Garry, I'll ask them those questions. I had assumed the new engine would come with everything it needs, including software.

The other question you need to ask is the engine fully dressed - ie all ready to go all ancillaries attached - bolt up to gearbox, connect exhaust pipe, connect to radiator, plug in looms etc or

is it a long engine where all all ancilliaries like A/C, alternator, power steering and maybe turbos come off your old engine and are bolted up to the new engine then installed.

I would expect the later so I would make sure they put on new belts and any other consumables.

Mmmm. I'd assumed it would come fully made up. Much prefer that, since they still haven't found out what's caused the failure on the existing engine. Could be any of a number of components, so it doesn't make sense to bolt 'old' peripherals onto a new engine.
Software a different issue of course.

Not that I have any knowledge of what LR will be doing but I'd expect the engine to be complete with manifolds, turbos and HP fuel pump but will have items which are ancillairy to the engine (alternator, starter, a/c compressor PS pump) transferred from the old engine as old anciliaries can't affect the integrity of a new engine. I would expect to re-use the original MAFs but suspect new radiator hoses would be fitted because they might not seal properly on different castings.

MAF - mass airflow sensors for the air intakes, fitting between the air filter box and the turbos.

The HP fuel pump might be re-used too because fuel could easily be supplied independently when the engine is given its factory run-in.

Well, my RRS went back to the dealer today for its heart transplant. I'll get some photos of the engine replacement exercise if anybody's interested.

I'm presuming LR will want the old(!) engine sent back to them, but if not, anybody in the market for a 3.0 LR diesel very lightly used??:-) It's almost ticked over 31,000km...!

I expect the engine will go back to the engine builders to discover what's not right and LR will get a credit for the engine.
