Question Whistling sound after engine start

    Gents,

Just started noticing a whistling sound straight after the engine cranks over, should I be worried?

What have you looked at does the whistling change with engine revs ? Have you tried running the engine without the drive belt?

I haven't looked at anything yet, looking for suggestions.

The whistling noise is quick and only lasts for 1 or 2s. It does not re-appear under revs/drive.

It's also more high-pitched than the normal turbo whistle.

    Whistle after start

Check the bolts on the exhaust manifold, I have just had the same noise fixed, it ended up being 3 snapped bolts. Its not an easy fix but it needed to be done.

Crapsticks! Do you think the exhaust manifold is warped as well?

    Brian.

Thanks Brian, so it could very well be the exhaust manifold then.

I am loathe to have this done by the stealers, their incompetence scares me sleepless. Who know what else they will break in the process...

The truck is only under warranty until Feb 2013, maybe I should wait until then and then have my trusty indie do the fix with the copper gasket and a hybrid turbo...

I'd get this issue fixed under warranty.

Then shortly before warranty runs out, take it to your trusty independent specialist and get them to list everything that needs fixing under warranty. Then go back to the dealer and get them to fix it. If one of those things then breaks prematurely out of warranty you should have grounds to make a claim. ie: Either it wasn't fixed properly (or not at all), or the parts used were faulty. New parts and workmanship should have a separate warranty.

    Thanks, good advice!

Took the landy in for the oil change this morning and the indie mech listened to the engine starting.

He seems to think that it's just one of belts being wet and slipping on startup.

We did drive through a hectic rain + hail storm last Saturday and I only started hearing the next day.
