    New Defender too me....1999 TD5

    Hi all,

Finally got a Defender..still have the Disco but will sell that when Defender up and running and all ok!!!

Just had blue slip done. Needs the following.

    • Front seat back shot to pieces
    • All doors have some kind of rust
    • Engine oil leak

Have been doing some reading....boy is there a lot to read about Defenders!!!

Thought about rebuilding seat but loved my Recaro's in my series 3.

Wondered what seats are out there to 'borrow' from another manufacture? and will fit. Like the arm rests in the Disco 2...anything like that would be great...o and heated...am I asking tooo much???

Doors...well...guessing I'll just have to weld and fill. Unless doors can be purchased at a reasonable price?? Where?

Oil leak...hmm got to look into that but was going to do the sump gasket at the same time as checking the oil pump bolt...is that worth doing at 368,000km's?

The onto the essentials...fitting some door rubbers etc to give some waterproofing and lower the noise.
    Then the rattles...windows etc...soundproofing later.

I have a Terrafirma 2 inch lift to put on...any recommendations on that....e.g what else should I being doing with the lift...is it enough? Dislocation?

Want to do lockers too. Being a Salisbury...can you get lockers or is it just a Detriot. Has already uprated flanges and shafts

    Also has dual batteries.

Upgrade wheels and tyres...looks like Disco rims and an old series three spare rim!!! I see there is a lot on this one...what is the average changes?

    Any other advise...

    Cheers,

    Chilly

Picture to come later but dont have time now!!

I think it will grow on you.....

One thing to keep in mind with the front seats is that in order to access the batteries under the pass seat and the toolbox under the driver's seat the bases or seats need to be readily removable.

New LR factory seat foams and covers are available.

Scheel-mann do a bolt in Deefer seat - with heating and arm rests as options. BUT - i don't think you will have room for arm rests. At least I don't in my County. (for a pic see the thread in my sig).

Get an ex-box from Mulgo, then your cubby will be at the right height to use as an arm rest

Glad you finally got one Chilly

You will see the wait is worth it As stated I don't think arm rests are going to fit in a defender, though the 'Mulgo' alternative will do

Aye, and closer too. Blue slipped today...a bit of rust in the doors, oil leak and seat to fix...happy so far...does need some owrk to bring it back to its glory!!!

Have a 2 inch lift to put on..need to get some measurements of actual height now and compare to standard and other lifts....see where I am starting from.
