Not sure if I like the design of it. A range rover is supposed to be stately, as that is what sets it apart from the x5, ML. It never pretended to be 'sporty'; but now it seems to with the rising shoulder line. And with the rounded ends, it's lost it's 'presence'.

    03-12 looks heaps better.

It's just a shame is a strictly bitument only car though, it may as well be a 2wd, as the tyre size is rediculous!

Apart from the silly tyres, the L405 will actually be very formidable off road. It needs to be as it is one of the core characteristics that LR had to keep for the RRV.

It is equipped with a new generation Terrain Response system which has an automatic function. The car can now sense what terrain it is on and select the best mode to be in automatically.

With all this electronics though, I would want to wait at bit for them to sort out the bugs.

I agree that it has lost some of it's regal-ness, but I still like it. To my eyes the out going model is starting to look a bit dated next to the L405.

I'd hold off with comments like that until you see it in the flesh...

Yes I do agree it's looking a bit outdated. And spending $150,000 on a vehicle shape that you can now get for under $20,000 also.

For all it's brain power (as stunningly brilliant as it is) any car's limiting factor is ultimately the tires.

For example, I just can't see this L405 outperforming a 16 inch P38 on sand. Let alone being able to get a tire strong enough to drive the high country.

I'd love to see an Aussie 4wd magazine test it though.

What are you guys on about with comments about tyres???

Tyre type are something that one chooses and not set by the manufacturer.

Agree. It will be an awsome machine shod with some proper off road rubber. Probably will be limited to wheels 18" upwards due to the brakes though.

Wifey really wants me to get one, but I want to wait a few years for any "issues" to get sorted out first. Also would like to be out of the current economic doldrums. Will try to go to the Sydney Motor Show in October to have a look it (if is makes an appearance).

English mags carry ads. for 18 and 19 inch mud tyres, they're just not so common here yet.

Mmm, I didn't think a 19inch offroad tire existed - hence my comments; but yay! However, only the bottom two models of the L322 are currently available with 19inch wheels, no 18's at all.

With the performance gains tauted around, I doubt there will be a 19inch option with the 405. Then what?

Wrangler MT/R used to be available as a 255/55R19... Standard fitment to the G4 cars.
