Puma Diff housing for 89 County

Hi all. Just wondering if there is any difference between the front diff housing from a 89 County to a 2010 Puma. My County has a cracked pumpkin which has been welded up and is leaking. It has a maxi drive axles and a maxi drive locker.

I also have am almost new Puma diff and was thinking of taking both into a diff place and have the internals swapped to make one good diff.

Is this possible?

Yes they are different, but not enough that can't be worked around.

The radius arm mounts are different. The County has a narrower radius arm then the newer Defender.

The Mod the Army ones have is to weld in spacer washers on the newer housing on the radius arm brackets.

All else should be fine, but you will need a good engineering shop to weld in the maxi drive diff actuator. If this is welded incorrectly the diff housing will bend when welded.

Alternatively, you can replace the diff pumpkin with a butt weld pipe cap, like Isuzu Rover did. Link to his post below.

Check the panhard rod mount as well, if I remember correctly they changed the bolt size in 2002.

If the diff housing is leaking around the 'pumpkin' it indicates that the housing is bent. The isuzurover mod is your best bet. The housings are easy to straighten even on the vehicle. Have done 3 so far. It is common with isuzu engined 110s. I used chain to hold the ends down and a jack in the middle. If you have it out you can check when it is straight taking the swivels off and putting straight angle across the flanges and measureing between them, top and bottom.

My theory on what bends them is the weight of the isuzu and hitting the bump stops. Of course it can happen to a v8 but you have to try a lot harder. I removed the 1 inch bump stop spacers from mine and it made a huge difference with bottoming out. I checked carefully and the diff doesn't come close to the sump.
