Friends/ customers of mine who are touring up that way decided late today to try and enhance the performance of their Tdi D1 by adding some ULP....unintentional of course, got towed into Steves environs late this arvo, and a short time ago I received an SMS that all was drained, flushed and running again!

Gotta love a simple dieso engine eh...

My dilemma is now what to do with 55L of 60:40 petty diesoleum
Will be good for starting fires and killing weeds I guess
Perhaps Ill feed 40 or so into a drum of ULP and run it in the old donger two stroke outboard - dieso is pretty close to two stroke oil eh?

Chainsaw, brush cutter, etc... I would still add a small amount of 2 ST oil.

Would be great for a parts washer!

If only I hadnt just yanked the old clapper tdi out of the fender, with a sniff of fresh dieso that old thing would have drunk it happily

Out of interest, I always thought that diesel and ULP were essentially miscible?
The owner made up the brew in Laura but managed to drive to Lakeland about 80km before she flamed out. Is it possible the petrol was sitting on top of the diesel allowing such a run time? Perhaps the old girl was just limping them to phone reception so they could call JC to sort it??? I am a Landy tragic afterall!

Miscible yes... Doesn't mean it will spontaneously mix in a (relatively) still tank though. Even 10-20% petrol in diesel would probably still be fine depending on temp. The ruskies run 50/50 D/P when it gets down to -40...

We are doing some experiments with ethanol/glycerol mixtures at present. Nicely miscible but the large density difference means that if not regularly stirred the top of the vessel is almost pure ethanol, the bottom is almost pure glycerol.

The SG of motor spirit is lower (.7???) than diesel (.8???), so if allowed to settle the petrol should float on the diesel. In reality this does not happen.

I just would have guessed as the fuel sloshes in at fill up time it would mix pretty thoroughly? I tell you the old girl just looked after them

At 155c a litre Im not going to just waste it - Maybe Ill just feed it in slowly to the fender once I get it back up and running?
