Puma high mounted brake light

Well the Puma has gone and lost the high mounted stop light and so I've been having a look at what to do to fix it. I could find a few other threads on here about it but no simple solutions.
First off I found two faults. One was a break in the tracks on the glass but the second one was the fact one of the terminal posts near the light had shaken itself lose and wasn't really soldered on anymore.
I know broken tracks can be fixed with a special paint so I guess I can resolve that issue and I can solder back on the terminal but then will it happen again?
From searching the www it doesn't appear anyone has found a solution short of replacing the glass. My first thought is to run a black insulated wire held in against the window rubber by a thin bead of black sealant and to run it from the terminals on each side at the base of the window up to the light. I'd also replace the light with an LED to reduce current load so I can use a finer gauge wire. This would be almost invisible and mimic what was there in a more reliable form.
So has anybody else done something other than replace the rear window?
What are your thoughts? Apart from the obvious one of "which idiot designed this"!
P.S. - Pedro hopefully this may lead to another thread in "the good oil"
