they could just pay attention to the existing gauges and turn the stereo down so they can hear the vehicle.

Reminds me a bit of the system in my old Citroen DS - engine overtemperature, or loss of oil or hydraulic pressure (hydraulics used for brakes and steering) resulted in the illumination of an additional warning light right in front of the driver, two inches across, with an 6w bulb. No way you would miss that!

A mate I used to work for back in the mid nineties would fit a 3" long rectangular amber flashing light on top of the dash in the race cars we looked after (hmm, maybe it wasn't quite that big, but it was huge in an open wheeler cockpit) along with a low coolant sensor, etc.

This was after I lost an engine to coolant loss after a rock went clean through one of the radiators at Eastern Ck but the temp gauge didn't rise.

It's amazing that an engine can go for about 12km at full noise with no coolant and just a very good synthetic oil.
I was ****ed off as there were four of us going hammer and tong fighting for the lead then I started to lose contact.
I thought I'd just cracked a header pipe, but the ting ting ting was engine detonation for two laps.........
    Unfortunately nothing was salvageable

A better alternative would be to keep idiots from behind the wheel.....

One customer of a previous employer needed a new engine after he basically scalped the underside of his sump and thought he'd be fine driving 2-3km home..... needless to say, he didnt make it....

Another customer was luckier..... he smashed part of his sump, a big enough hole to get your first through, and kept driving long enough to phone a relative and ask what the "low oil pressure" warning message meant.... only needed a new sump!

The Citroen DS was an amazing car because of so many advanced options it had. It was ahead of its era.

It's amazing how many people think that the low oil pressure light, is just a low oil light - when it comes on, it means you need to put some oil in.

Obviously the system is designed for young people who pay more attention to their phones than to the real world around them.

There seem to be plenty of them who are so focussed on their phones that they are completely oblivious to what is happening around them.
