D3 or wait for new Defender

    Hi

I have a 2000 D2, and am looking at upgrading early next year to something abit more comfortable/newer and with some work will make a good tourer.

A 2007+ V6TD D3 is what I'm looking at but am wondering if its worth waiting for the new Defender to come out?

Are there any common problems to look for in the D3? Any particular year to look for?

I work away, but it will be used as a daily driver carting the family and dogs around.

Whats your thoughts on this? The D2 will last a couple more years, but fingers crossed nothing major happens that will require a lot of money spent on it.

    Cheers

The new L660 "maybe called Defender" won't be out before 2015. Do you want to wait that long?

More than that, do you want to be one of the owners who get to sort out the problems always experienced with new models whatever the marque? The last of a model are usually the best as the problems have been sorted.

You and I are in a very similar position - mine a high miles 02 Disco V8 - very nice machine and awesome off road (with retrofitted CDL) but looking longer term. Dont want to go to the expense of a D4 nor do I need the rangeroveresque type interior, as nice as it is. BUT I like the sound of the new Defender. Lotzalandies makes a good point, and normally i would agree, but its hard to imagine that it would have more dramas with diffs, gearboxes, clutches etc than the Puma...

Or you could wait for this...a more honest to goodness Disco - Disco 5:

The DC100 project (the new "Defender") looks good, but seriously you're going to be waiting until the end of 2015 or later before you'll get it here in Oz. And don't expect the price to be as "utilitarian" as the concept!

A nice 2007 D3 might at least be worth trading in against a 2016 model. Doubt you'd get anything for the D2 by then. Plus you'll get 4 years of permagrin

    Cheers,

I thought the "new defender" was coming out in 2014, so the end of 2015 is a long time to wait.

If that leaked report is true, then the D5 will be a great machine. I was looking at Toyota's but would like to stay with Land Rover. Cant bring myself to pay 70k for a 70 Series that is pretty poorly spec'd and wont pay the price tag for a base line 200 series.

Looks like I'll keep an eye on D3's then maybe cross over to the D5 or new Defender

According to Land Rover insiders (L660 development team), the DC100 was/is a marketing concept project to test the water for an entry level 4WD. It was the press who labelled it as the Defender replacement. It was never intended to be the platform for the next generation Defender, although it now looks likely to end up in production. At best it is a baby Defender, not unlike the Hummer H3 is to the Hummer H1 or the Bundera was to Land cruiser
