    Western tip of Cape York under mining threat

    A company has lodged applications for a chain of sand mines on Cape York's west coast from Weipa, up. Oresome Minerals [ I didn't make that up ] a subsidiary of Metallica Minerals has been granted 4 mining leases and has applied for a further 10 exploration permits.Wilderness society sokesman Gavin McFadzean said " the cumulative impact of the chain of sand mines would be devasting to the coastline & natural values of the NW Cape." Mine Minister, Andrew Cripps, said " just because exploration permits had been granted, it did not mean the holder was entitled to mine". Shades of Joh, Bob

    i reckon thats good news, esp. if they are chasing heavy minerals, could do with a new source for our plant. surely Campbell wont be swayed by the minorities
