			Problem with Alternator bracket

					Hi folks,

I have a small problem with the Alternator bracket on my Defender.
It is not as shown in the picture as item 1 having two bolts. Mine doesn't.
It is a solid casting. The original bolt is lying on the Bruce highway somewhere and I have no idea what it is. The casting has what appears to be an 8mm thread on the right hand end and something smaller than a 6mm hole on the otherr end.
I am holding it on with an 8mm bolt at one end at present just so I can move the vehicle.
Any help would be most appreciated.

 Robert

Just giving a possible answer 'cause no one else has...

Based on the 300 tdi in my D1...

If yours has the serpentine belt (the belt that does everything but a/c) with a tensioner pulley, it will have the alternator mounted as you say, with a through bolt at the top abt 130mm long and a shorter bolt, going through the alternator mounting flange and threaded into the mount at the bottom.

The threads are std metric AFAIK, so replacement bolts of appropriate selected lengths should be available even today, at places like Supercheap. If it is the through bolt that is missing anything of nearly the righht dia should get you by..

Thanks for your reply 87 County.
My belt is only for the alternator. The fixing is basically upside down to what you have described.
I'll hit the local bolt shop and see if i can get a long series 5mm capscrew.
