Lightbulb Who has a PTO winch fitted to their defender??

i'm not talking ex-mil as the winch will be fitted to a military bar so all good

I am looking for ideas on how to fix the front bar/winch arranagement on my defender

currently fitted is a home made cradle fitted to the chassis, around this TJM bar that has the middle section cut out of it........bar and cradle are seperate. the ends of the bar basically flap around in the air, well not quite but the smallest knock would put the bar into my guard

    Two option i guess

    1. keep existing cradle and build a new bar around it
    2. get a custom bar made that incorporates a winch cradle

    chasing your ideas

i'm not overly fussed about having barwork above the winch to support lights and antennas

could be as simple as reusing an original defender bumper

re: existing cradle (rar110 and inside hope you are not reading this) i was pleasantly surprised with the winch installations performance on the weekend as i was being dragged up hill on a 2:1 (snatch block) everything stayed in place. am i right that only equates to maybe a bit over half the load?

thanks for adding the other photo........it now looks like the standard defender bumper with the winch cradle behind it mounted high enough for the cable to run over the top of the bumper

very similar roller assembly to the army landies

    cheers

I'd like to see how others engage their PTO, particularly in cab, how and where? Any photos please?

i would show you my set however i am a little embarrassed about the effort...it was supposed to be a short term arrangement as i was in a rush, five years later and its still the same

Well that means it works! I would rather see a permanently-temporary arrangement than none at all, because I have only ever seen the Perentie arrangement. How about a description? Cable or lever actuation? Location of actuator? Did you borrow bits from somewhere else? I was thinking a twist to lock cable hand throttle might work.

i have a length of 6mm threaded rod
drilled a hole slightly larger through the seat box right next to the tunnel
i have a nut that i run down the thread so that the PTO cannot engage accidently (main reason for this is i leave the dog cltuch engaged, probably not reccommended)

so to engage i run the nut up the thread, pust the rod rearwards and engage the PTO

the plan is to fit an air cylinder.......i already have air for my locker just need to make up a bracket.......still on the to do list

Thanks Kelvin, that shows that i'm thinking in the right direction. The army PTOs had a spring return at the pto end that mine doesn't have, so may need to go a solid mechanical actuator similar to yours versus a slightly easier to arrange cable.
