    aftermarket exhaust

    hi everyone

    today i got a quote to buy and fit extractor, new cats and a 2 1/2 inch sports exhaust system to my 2000 p38 from the local bloke.the quote was $2400 for the lot, i thought this was a bit on the high side so i just wanted to know how much other people have payed to upgrade there exhaust and how much better the p38 went with extractors.

    any info would be great

    Rovercraft in Aus sell a complete sports system with headers, no idea of cost
    I would look for a cats back system which should be a 1/4 of the price you have been quoted then spend the rest on new cam and timing gear to get back some lost HP

    i got a cam put in when i got new motor then put a twin 2 1/2'' cat back which cost me $500 n everyone that jumps in my car cant believe the power n torque its making, n thats also turning 265 75 16 KM2's..

    Yeah cat back 2 1/2" single on mine, $300 and has a nice note. Would be going bigger if you want to turn heads, but 2 1/2" single is small enough not to annoy you at highway speeds. I will be getting a twin system when mine dies.

    I had my whole exhaust replaced from the block back and the cost was $2,300. The exhaust manifolds were the big problem to replace as they could not be sourced here or in the UK for some reason so I had them made up to match by a custom exhaust place and had them ceramic coated. I stayed with the single back pipe rather than twin.
    Exhaust sound is a bit more gruntier than previous but do not see too much if any in power or performance. I was told by a few that the rover exhaust manifolds are well matched to the engine and pretty good as stock standard. Custom extractors etc would not add much other than a different exhaust note although that in itself makes the car go faster and quicker...bit like racing stripes.
    I did away with the heat sheilds as well, as the ceramic coating decreases engine heat quite a bit and keeping things cooler under the bonnet was worth the added cost. Ceramic coating of the headers were about $300.

    I am a believer in ceramic coating. Glad you went that way Peter! I shall too in the future (when I need to upgrade my zorst again).

    Yeah the ceramic coating really cuts down the heat and you can actually work on or around the manifold after a few minutes of turning the car off without sizzling your skin off. The coating on mine came up close to looking like they had been chromed and the exhaust guy stated that they matched up with the block perfectly. There was only one issue I had with them in that they have a small bar welded between the front and back set of pipes ( Its to keep the manifold rigid in storage and shipping ). The bar was welded in such a position that restricts access to the spark plugs in the middle two cylinders on each bank when installed. Easily avoided if they had placed the bar a few centrimeters lower. Nevertheless I will either cut the bar off or work around it with a different plug removal socket when the time comes. For me Ceramic is well recommended.

    Thanks Serbastian. Mine were from Hurrican. Great job except for the shipping bar placement as mentioned earlier. I did call them and advise of the issue.

    thanks for all the info, i think a set of extractor and from cats back will do me for now and i can always upgrade later.
