			110 extreme central locking

I was wondering if I could upgrade the central locking on my 110 extreme Td5 so that I could operate it with a nice little remote, but as I have looked into this it seems to me that maybe I should already have one, and didn't get it when I bought the car!
Anyone able to shed light on this?
 Should I have one?
If not, is it an upgrade to the existing central locking that can be done easily?

Yep, you should already have the keyfobs.

You will just need to buy a couple of keyfobs off eBay and then someone with rovacom (perhaps Nanocom also) can program them to your 10AS (alarm) unit for you.

This may be of no help but...

Not too sure how you can start it without a remote as I was under the impression that it needed a proximity signal from the fob in order for the ignition to work and to disable the alarm (if I just use my key in the door lock it'll trigger the alarm).

Maybe that I'm wrong (this is most likely), maybe that it's been disabled or may be...

I take it the vehicle is second hand? I have met a few people where the previous owner had stashed a fob in the engine bay (and by stashed I mean duct taped to near the bulkhead). With the fob there (in reasonable proximity to the ignition) I think you can lock and unlock and start the vehicle by the key without the immobiliser kicking in. I think this type of practice was popular with rural / farmer types. Maybe worth a quick look under the bonnet to see if you may have one already.

Mine was an 02 xtreme SA build and had no plips from new so I am assuming that the Immobiliser function was not enabled.
Dealer set it up with a fob for me about 18 months after I bought the vehicle.

As said there are 2 frequencies available. To find out which one yours is locate the as10 module (green box) behind the instrument cluster, the operating frequency is on it.
And anybody with a Nanocom or similar should be able to program the plips.

To avoid a possible EKA scenario when we go remote I have since turned off the immobiliser function but retained the central locking function which you can do in the as10 module settings with a Nanocom.

 Cheers,
 Paul

By default the immobilizer is not enabled
If you get a fob you can just use it to unlock the doors this saves the door locks and keys from wearing out.
As said a with a Nanocom you can enable the plips or if you were silly enough you could enable the immobilizer

Done it here... if i remember right they are 315mhz.. and have to be a certain type. Lucas of course.. Says Lucas 3TXB on the back. I beleive the AS10 alarm was also used on some rovers and Mgf's. I got mine (2x) from Linn Rover over here in perth. UK ones were 415mhz so dont go sourcing one from there!

Nanocom can program them, i cant remember by either learning or by a barcode / code number inside (done it for a disco II a while ago and cant remember which one was which) but it wasnt hard to do....

thanks for all the helpful info.
yes, it is second hand. Also an SA build - 03 extreme.
I'll check there's nothing hiding in the engine bay and also check the frequency before ordering one - don't need a plastic keyring all the way from the UK!
